I have been in the coatings industry for over for almost 50 years now. There is always that one product that "just works", and Penofin is it. When I first started using Penofin they only had one version and now they have something that will work for just about any wood project you have. The trick with exterior wood is to keep it from drying out or rotting away, oiling your wood is the best way to achieve this. There are so many products available that it's hard to make a knowledgeable choice. Wood expands/contracts daily as the temperature changes, for this reason, "topical" finishes are only for LOOKS, they will crack and peel over time. Oiling the wood on a regular basis is much easier, a whole lot faster and SO MUCH better for the wood in the long run. New wood should be dry and old wood should be cleaned; both need to be dry before application. Once the wood has been oiled initially, follow up maintenance coats go quickly. Penofin makes this an easy task, I use a "pump up sprayer" and a soft bristle brush on a pole to apply it decks and handrails. Some projects you can just brush it on, let it soak in and then wipe off any excess.I hope this helps, save your wood and use this product and you will be surprised.

Used on Ipe deck and bench. Don't have a read on how it lasts, but natural color brings out beat in wood. Allows boards to have variations.

I have never used a Penofin oil based product in 40 years of woodworking. I recently made a few outdoor pieces of furniture from Sapele and used this product. It really made the grain pop, and was so easy to use. I can not speak to the life of the piece before a light sand and recoat, but I would imagine a couple of years, but from experience that is the expectation of any product outdoor.Great product, wish I would have found it a long time ago...don't hesitate to buy it.
