Yes, the gears don't come off but that makes it better for kids who are to young to put together and tend to throw items. So, no lost pieces. This also makes it great for traveling in the car. No lost pieces. Easily slides into a diaper bag and light for transporting the toy. I highly recommend. My lil one loves it.
