If you are reading this, your water heater probably does not work. My model is the 2004 40 Gal select state water heater. My pilot light went out and I can not re ignite it. Was going to replace it for more than 1k , but figure to try this out.It is a pain to reinstall because the burner has to sit on the U groove bracket, I had to take it out and do it again twice. For the position of the burner , I have to be laying down on the ground, tough to see the position with the panel in the way so you have to feel it...After everything is in place, turn gas on and use soapy water to check the connections for bubbles, if none, congratulation, you just saved hundreds of dollar.... i took a hot shower afterward, and it feels good after few days of cold water.I will update this review if anything happens ( hopefully not).Good luck ! Had no hot water and amazon to the rescue again. Cheaper and faster than any other website as we could not find the right part at any big box or local hardware store.

This part said it was compatible for the model number on my hot water heater. It was not. I spent hours trying to make adjustments to get it to work. Thankfully it did work, but I can't tell through the window if pilot is lit, just have to hope and keep trying.

Contrary to what the product info says this will absolutely not fit the AO Smith GCV series. The thermocouple is completely different. The GCV series has a short copper piece that transitions into two wires that split and connect into a clip port. This piece has a long copper piece that screws into something that does not exist in a GCV series.

Worked great as soon as I installed it. However, 4 weeks later and it stopped working (4 days after the warranty expired). Attempted to clean it and make it work, however, the thermocouple is just as bad as the old original I needed to replace. Not worth buying again!
