I received a similar voltage stick as this,CEF (UK)was the supplier, same circuitry etc, the unit is brilliant, with some knowledge, the unit shows on a bar or two ghost potential, mutual inductance etc, when on a live cable, like right next to the probe, it's red, for example on a three core flex, line, neutral and earth aka ground, the probe can be rotated around the circular flex and live can be located or neutral, even though it's very close to each other, used so many times it's simply practice to quickly test, so on a closely connected neutral and line it's child's play,The meter scale from yellow to red is really useful, as it's not a binary light up and sound OR not, relying very much on the tester to determine, but the accurate scale of (if memory serves) four yellow LEDs to two red leaves room for knowledge, intuition on experience, a quick rule of thumb, one or two yellow, ghost or residual or mutual/ inductance voltage, 3 or more yellow, neutral and finally one or two red, live, it varies one either way for type of circuit / equipment or situation, but the rule of thumb is like 95% spot on,I am a fluke,megger, metrowatt, kewtech, etc guy, but this voltage stick for a passive device is brilliant, the more you use it, then you just know how its nuances are,Invaluable and ability to create a higher resolution from the circuit dependent binary of live or not, sound and light up or not, just proves again, cost is no metric for quality or performance,Make sure if your meter is in reserve in a toolbox or in storage, REMOVE THE BATTERIES! batteries leak and knacker the meter, had a Klein pen voltage stick ruined by a leaking Duracell battery, fixed down to component level, but it's a non serviceable unit, so makes a mess getting into the gubbins,

Needed to change a light switch myself but am not an electrician and didn't want to pay £65 for someone to do a ten minute job.This worked reassuringly well and left me confident enough to do it myself, otherwise it might have been curtains for me.A small price to pay to stop you from electrocuting yourself.

Discovered my old contact type tester (looks like screw driver with a red led indicating) was not working and never liked the fact I had to touch a live wire / terminal to get a reading. Found this "Neoteck" tester as a replacement. Can even tell which side the live wire is in a cable. Have had this only about a week and the novelty has not worn out. Have tested all cables that I happen to be using. No false reading yet. Therefore, think it is very reliable and above all safe and easy to use.

Works perfectly. Always check a known live circuit first with this kind of tool.

Handy little tool

I bought this because I believed it would be a good idea to be doubly sure I'd turned the power off on the lighting circuit before messing with the wiring. As much as I trust the wiring to be right, it's just better safe than sorry.It's a nice item, feels good in the hand and isn't heavy. It's also very easy to operate, just turn it on and point the tip at whatever you want to check and, if it detects any electricity, it'll beep and flash a red light at you. How easy is that? It also has a torch built in, which isn't especially bright, but it did come in handy when I was changing a light switch and it suddenly went very dark outside.As for accuracy, I found it can be a bit overly keen to detect electricity when there isn't any. I tried it on a few dead circuits and, whilst it picked up that most were indeed dead, on occasion it blazed a warning at me anyway. I found that if you move it about or press hard on the tip, it encourages it to misbehave, so only a light touch with the very tip is needed. In fact, in one instance I had it powered on near to a thin DC power cord and it shouted at me even though it was pointing only vaguely near it, which was a bit of a concern if I'm honest.The main reason for a device like this is so you don't kill yourself handling live cables. But I found on occasion that the false positives meant I sometimes ignored the result and carried on anyway, which on reflection wasn't very sensible. If it's not reliable enough, it's not really that useful.
