No rear inputs or AM radio, otherwise decent for price
No inputs in the back. Who sets up a sound system with everything hooked into the front?Otherwise functions well, good sound, and decent radio reception once you untangle the wire antenna.

works just like he wanted
I got it for my husbands birthday. He had an older system that no longer played any of his cs's outside. This system is very good for what he wanted and the sound is excellent. It has FM and Bluetooth with small speakers but big sound.

Great stereo of home/office
Great small sized stereo for home or office. Sleek and sturdy, easy to set up and easy to use. Powerful volume and great sound in a large area.Definitely recommend for the quality of Phillips.

Great buy and better sound than regular bluetooth speakers
Bought this for my daughter a few years back as a random present when I had an extra commission. For whatever reason, she's gotten into my CDs. I like how you can get the radio on it so I don't have to stream from my phone and get interrupted when I get calls. I listen mostly to classical public radio when I'm working. The sound is so much better than the high end bluetooth speakers that I have. I think it sounds so much better as there's a left and a right speaker. It's also kind of classic retro. I used to live in Europe so I have an affection for Phillips products.

Philips M4205: Good sound, poor functionality
First, the positives: This system sounds very nice considering the price point. It was easy to set up and its footprint is small. The Negatives: I bought this bookshelf system for one feature. Specifically to be able to play music from my iPod and iPhone. The unit does neither. Nor does the bluetooth work. I set it up and plugged in my iPod. The LED display says its reading the files and then displays a message saying "No USB". I checked the connection (its connected) then tried a different device. Same result. I went to Philips website for support and downloaded the user guide. The guide states the system won't work with some devices (it doesn't specify which). A BIG negative like that should have been mentioned in the product description.Another negative in my opinion is the chintzy feel of the controls and the less than smooth opening and closing of the CD tray. My expectation is this unit won't last very long, however, given the size of the box and the hassle factor to return for a refund, I will just keep it and play CD's for as long as it lasts. Overall I would not recommend this product. If you are still set on buying one, do yourself a favor and make sure it will interface with your MP3 player & bluetooth.**UPDATE**March 31, 2023 I have made several attempts to contact Philips for support to find out why my mp3 devices don't work with USB connection. All I get are automated responses from the company saying they will respond in 24-48 hours. They never actually address my issues. In addition the CD player has begun to make intermittent, loud clicking noises when playing CD's. In light of the poor customer support and poor performance of the unit that was purchased less than 3 months ago, I would strongly recommend AGAINST purchase of this CD player.

Okay, if okay is what you want: update
I’d hoped for clarity at mid- and upper frequencies, and it was actually muddier than my relatively old LG tv’s internal speakers. Okay, what about the bass—surely more thump than the TV’s speakers? Yes, but not by much. Also, at max volume it’s just kind of loud, and I’m not a volume junky. So yes you get what you pay for and for many owners I figure it’s fine. But back it goes and I’m girding myself to pay much more, not for mind-blowing in the thousands of dollars but very good and not “okay.”7/11/23Call Crutchfield. They probably have every component in the known universe. Best of all, their customer service is stellar. Whoever you talk to on the phone is extremely knowledgeable. I had no idea what the best amp or speakers would be for me and the man asked several questions to get a sense of what kind of music, how big the room, how much bass I want, etc. Right away he recommended a combination of components he had personal knowledge of, some of which were on sale. It was within my budget—not cheap but you do get what you pay for. Answered all my questions; friendly and professional.I’d been researching, reading reviews, and found it a big information overload. His help sent my anxiety level to zero. Also, if you have trouble with setup/installation they’re readily available any time to talk you through it. They provide any support you need for as long as you own the component. You call and get a human being on the phone immediately, and not outsourced to a faraway country. Unheard of!No I did not get anything for writing this. They’re just great. And by the way, my new sound system is PERFECT!
